Welcome to 2014!

Happy New Year to everyone!!!

I personally love New Years, I love the positivity and boost of motivation that people get at this time of year.

Some people may see a New Year as just another day and nothing has changed, but why think like this? A new year is the perfect time to make changes, in yourself or in your life - to learn something new or to just get excited!
Why spend your days complaining and being unhappy?

You were born to be unique and special!

That is why this year I challenge you to do something new, try something different; learn to speak a new language, or take on a sport you've always wanted to. It’s never too late, you’re never too young or too old. Life is made for living! Why does it take us so long to figure this out?

Challenge yourself! Push yourself, Compete with yourself and be the best version of yourself.

One of the most meaningful quotes I have ever read said, “The definition of hell: the last day you have on Earth, the person you become will meet the person you could have become.”

My chest felt weird after reading that. Imagine on the last day on Earth you are faced with the person you could have been, if you only made certain decisions in your life. Imagine being faced with the person you wish you could be, whether it is to be a runway model, a business owner, an actor, a home owner, a chef, a university graduate, a sport champion, an Olympic runner or even a truly happy person. Imagine realising that all that potential was inside you all along and that if you stopped procrastinating and making excuses you could have been what you so wanted to be.
I thought and thought and then realised how much time I waste. An entire human being is created from conception to birth in 9 months, that’s a brand new human being, a new person, a brain, limbs, gender, characteristics and genes are all formed together in the space of 9 months. If a new human being can be created in 9 months, imagine what you can create out of yourself in 12.

I took time to analyse why the majority of us don’t chase our dreams, is it fear? Fear that we are not good enough? Fear of failure? Fear of what others may think? Fear of rejection? Then I thought about my son when he was a toddler, he had basic survival instincts but besides that he was fearless, he would touch anything or jump from anywhere without a bone of fear within him. But gradually as I told him how dangerous it was to be near fire or to jump from heights, he got older and he learned it from repetition. And although he has never experienced the burn of a flame, he is scared to touch it.

Although in this example I am protecting my son from what I know to be true (that fire will burn), I am trying to say that sometimes the repetition of negative thoughts or people telling us we can’t, make us start to doubt ourselves, to fear a flame before ever feeling a burn.
Do you understand where I am going with this? we are fed many thoughts during our lifetime, some useful, positive and protective, but some negative and harmful to our self-belief.

Sometimes we doubt ourselves because people have doubted us before; sometimes we are scared of failure because we have failed before.  But as they say, it’s not about how many times you fall down, it’s about how many times you get back up that truly defines who you are.

This year take the leap, what is the worst that can happen? Fail? Well then fail giving it 100! And definitely get back up!
